This example presents the design of a 30ft excavation with a reinforced concrete diaphragm wall braced by two rows of struts. The model and analysis have been prepared with the DeepEX - Shoring Design Software, using the DeepEX 2D analysis methods (Limit Equilibrium - Non-Linear Analysis).
A. Project Description
The 30ft deep excavation is supported by a 2ft thick diaphragm wall and two levels of cross-lot struts. Four soil layers are considered, and a 0.8 ksf surcharge is included at the top. The figure below presents the optimized braced excavation model.
The analysis is performed with the available analysis methods in DeepEX software basic version - Limit Equilibrium Analysis and Non-Linear Analysis (Elastoplastic Winkler Springs). Once the analysis is completed, the structural wall and strut sections are quickly automatically optimized the and required wall depth is determined.
