External Surcharges and Load Pressures in DeepEX


A. Introduction


DeepEX software can take into account all external loads that are applied on an excavation site. External loads can be applied either on the soil surface (strip loads, linear loads, train loads) or on the wall directly (strip loads, point loads, external moments and prescribed displacements).

Three-Dimensional loads can also be applied on the model area (buildings, footings, 3D Surface Loads). These loads have a specific position (local X and Y coordinates on the model area) and can affect any examined design section according to the design section position.

In DeepEX, the external surface loads produce horizontal surcharges on the wall. These surcharges can be calculated with any of the following implemented methods:


  • Elasticity Equations (Bousinesq etc.)

  • Two-way distribution angle

  • One-way distribution angle

  • One-way distribution angle from soil friction

  • Elasticity to Vertical Stress method

  • CIRIA method

  • WMATA method

  • NYC Department method

The external loads can be added in any construction stage in DeepEX, and they are applied in all staged from the installation stage. Any load can be accessed in any construction stage and be independently activated or deactivated. Finally, we can access a load and change the load magnitude in a specific construction stage.
