Non-Horizontal Stratigraphy in Deep Excavation Models
A. Introduction
In several cases, we need to design a project and consider non-horizontal soil layer stratigraphy.
In DeepEX we can define irregular soil conditions by using the Custom Layer mode option. One efficient way of working is to first create an approximate horizontal layer stratigraphy with a regular boring and then convert the model into a custom layer mode analysis. We can then modify the initial horizontal layers or draw new soil layer lines on the model area.
The custom layer mode can be used in all analysis modes. In the limit-equilibrium analysis mode, the program can perform active and passive wedge analyses, or automatic sliding surface searches to determine active and passive pressures initially. In the non-linear soil-spring analysis mode, a similar approach is used to recalculate the initial Ka and Kp values. In the non-linear analysis custom layers should be assumed at the same elevation on both wall sides.
