Tangent Pile Walls: Use Different Wall Sections Along the Pile


A. Introduction - Procedures - Result Diagrams


DeepEX software gives the possibility to create several different wall sections in the same software file. We can use the Draw Additional Wall Element tool of the software to actually draw all the required wall parts on the model area, and we can define the exact position and structural section of each part, selecting one of the generated wall sections.


In this video, we create a model of a 12m deep tangent pile wall (0.6m diameter tangent piles). We need to use different reinforcement layouts, as presented in the image below:

We will create three different wall sections in DeepEX, simulating the reinforcement of the different wall parts. For the top and bottom part, we will use 6 and 8 rebars (18mm diameter) respectively. The rebars in these sections will be equally distributed inside the pile section (default software option). For the middle part, we will use 10 rebars (18mm diameter as well), placed in a custom layout.


Next, we will present the procedure to draw the additional wall elements on the model area. This way, we can simulate different wall sections along the pile. The procedure is summarized in the following image:

After the analysis is succeeded, we can review several result graphs on the model area for each construction stage. In such cases, that the wall section changes with depth, we can see the different calculated moment and shear capacities for each wall part. The following images present the calculated capacities (moment and shear), that were calculated for each wall section, due to the different longitudinal and shear reinforcement.
